SIM Yamaha Parts Advisory: Yamaha 4-stroke Timing Belt Tensioner

SIM Yamaha Parts Advisory: Yamaha 4-stroke Timing Belt Tensioner

This advisory applies to all hydraulic timing belt tensioners that are used on Yamaha 4-stroke outboards, F150HP and up.

Once the tensioner and timing belt are installed, DO NOT PULL AND REMOVE PIN.  Use the same Allen wrench and procedure used to release the tensioner to remove the belt. (See SIM Yamaha Tensioner Bulletin)  Carefully apply the same tension (maximum 11ft lbs) to the tensioner to enable the circular pin to easily slide out.  Do not grab the pin like a pull string to remove it.  Doing so could aerate the fluid in the internal hydraulic cylinder which could decrease the overall tension on the timing belt. This will lead to premature timing belt failure and possible engine damage.
