Did you know that the outboard’s propeller is a key factor in the performance of your vessel? This is why it is a best practice to visually inspect the propeller before enjoying a fun day on the water. Checking the propeller for any bends, nicks, cuts, or cracks will help ensure the unit’s performance will be maintained during operation. If any of those are present, you should arrange for the prop to be repaired as soon as possible.
Another recommendation that you can offer your customer is to be aware of corrosion. Even stainless steel propellers can develop surface discoloration. Here are three tips on how to clean and protect your stainless steel propeller:
1. Spray the propeller with a rough-cast mag wheel cleaner. Do not let it sit for more than 30 seconds. Wipe with a dish sponge, rinse with clean water, dry, and then apply paste wax.
2. For spot cleaning, spray hydrogen peroxide or calcium lime and rust remover on a cloth and wipe it over the discolored area but do not let it dry. Rinse thoroughly, dry, and then apply paste wax.
3. Use a mild rubbing compound or metal polishing paste for the more difficult stains. Simply apply the
compound or paste onto a pad and apply it on the propeller using a circular motion until the stain has faded. Buff out with a clean cloth and then apply paste wax.

We hope these tips will help you be aware of how important it is to keep an eye on your propeller. If you would like more information on propeller care, you can find it here: https://yamahaoutboards.com/propellers.
